Photographer’s Notes:

I have always been drawn to the look and texture of people’s work surfaces. There is no intent to create a visual. It is totally random. I notice them wherever I go, whether on a bench in a mechanic’s garage or on the floor of an artist’s studio — anywhere people leave a mark of their labor. In my studio, we use pieces of plywood as work surfaces — this one had a hole cut in it and reminds me of the beginnings of a Kandinsky painting.
