Steve Sonheim

Steve begins with found objects that have an intrinsic beauty in themselves and through lighting and composition he creates an environment in which they become “sacred” objects.

“My work is not usually conceptual; I am not creating puzzles to figure out or communicating a specific idea. I am interested in walking that line between meaning and pure abstraction. I work with objects as a painter might work with color, responding only to shape and texture, following the direction that the objects take. I make my decisions based on what simply feels right. The abstract painter Wassilly Kadinski believed that abstract art can touch the soul and that is my highest aspiration. ”
