Photographer’s Notes:

This lamp was photographed in a motel room with a toy plastic camera. During the process of making a print, I began to notice how the shade reminded me of a motion picture screen. The total symmetry of the composition tends to give the image a sense of stillness and quiet. This contradicts the notion of moving images on a screen. The sense of quiet made me think of the old silent movies. The early movies had a noticeable grain and many of them had a blueish tint. I added grain and color. This Silent Movie is about a moment of stillness occurring before, or after, an event.
