Photographer Profile

Judy Stalus

Judy Stalus began photographing in 1970 and set up her first darkroom in 1971. Her inspiration has always come from her immediate environment, and although her subject matter, style, and technique have changed over the years, her unique sensibility adds coherence and unity to her work.

She now lives on fifty acres of beautiful gardens, fields and woodlands in Northern New England with her husband and daughter. This setting is the basis for most of her current photography, both her ethereal landscapes and intimate florals. Despite the harsh climate of northern New England, she has flowers in blossom from March through November. She photographs these flowers in the garden, in the house, from afar and very close through every season. Although her interpretation of nature is rarely literal, it always attempts to be true.
