Janet Matthews

Janet Matthews’ interest in photography was rekindled in the mid-1990s when, as a high school art teacher, she was assigned to teach Photo 1. Although her background was in painting/drawing, she found that photography allowed her to see in a new way and it became an integral part of her image-making process. “The photograph becomes a starting point in an image that I can continue to explore through other processes, such as hand-coloring, collage or digital manipulation.” Janet lives in Maryland in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.
