Four Boys from Volendam
nelsonb45_Volendam_boys.jpg
Four Boys from Volendam by Bill Nelson, Restoration Artist

Photographer’s Notes:

Volendam is a fishing village on the Zuider Zee, near Edam. Beginning in the late nineteenth century, it was also a popular destination for artists and photographers, in part because of its distinctive costume and architecture. For the local population, posing for photographers and painters became a cottage industry.

This image is from a set of more than 200 nitrocellulose negatives discovered in Minneapolis. The images were shot in Europe during 1904, photographer unknown.
