Dan ChungDan Chung was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1971 and moved to the U.S. when he was 10 years old. He vaguely remembers the first picture he took, when he was about 7 — he wanted to have his family in the bottom right corner of the frame and a statue on the top left of the frame. This first attempt at a balanced composition haunted him and as time went on, he realized that he controlled composition, light, and the full emotion of a photograph. “I believe, that we, as humans have a strong need to express our feelings. And in a strange, magical way, photography gives me the power to express what I’m feeling. It’s all about capturing the physical aspect of a subject, whether it is a person’s face or a tree limb and recording it as an image. It already exists in the world and I get to interpret it in an artistic, emotional way. That is the creative force that amazes me still.” |
