Photographer’s Notes:

The photographer documented the prelude to the sculling competition that took place among Oxford colleges in early July. Spectators filled the floating clubhouse/viewing platforms known as “college barges” and jockeyed for choice positions in the flat-bottomed punts.

This image is from a set of more than 200 nitrocellulose negatives discovered in Minneapolis. The images were shot in Europe during 1904, photographer unknown.
